100 years of CU architectural education

A symposium this month will mark 100 years of architectural education at Clemson University. Clemson’s fourth-year chair of the architecture department, Kate Schwennsen, has enjoyed going thru the records to gain a sense of a storied architectural past. That historic era will be highlighted Friday, October 18 in Lee Hall. There, several noted architectural historian-theorists will speak—including some whose textbooks are used today at Clemson. “We have a little less than 400 students enrolled in architecture today,” she said. When those students obtain their degrees, many practice architecture in private business. That gives them the chance to engage in different kinds of building projects in the U-S and abroad. “They really do every kind of building,” Schwennsen said in an interview with 96.3/WGOG NEWS.
