Potential ripple effect within OSD

At Devil’s Fork State Park next week, Oconee school trustees will retreat for a brainstorming session that could impact the campuses of both Walhalla Middle School and Hamilton Career Center near Seneca. Trustees Chairman Andy Inabinet confirmed to 96.3/WGOG NEWS that one of the topics is to be what eventually happens to the building and property of the current Walhalla Middle School.  Once the new high school is finished on SC 11, the middle school likely will switch nearby to what is now the current high school off 183. On the part of district administration, there’s sentiment to convert the 37-year old middle school building and property into a new home for the district’s maintenance operations. Those operations are now headquartered on the campus of the Career Center at Bountyland. By freeing up Career Center space, what becomes available there, in the view of Chairman Inabinet, might be made attractive to Tri-County Technical College for that long-talked about satellite campus serving Oconee County. Another topic for the meeting will be expanding the district’s partnership with Tech to allow 11th and 12th grade Oconee students to take additional dual credit courses. The trustees annual retreat meeting is set for 9 o’clock Wednesday morning.
