2013 the year for Oconee FOCUS

Oconee County officials say progress continues to be made toward the implementation of their countywide broadband project with next year, 2013, to be the year the first customers will enjoy high-speed data service. In the meantime, I-T Director Mike Powell and ‘FOCUS” project director Kim Wilbanks invite everyone to follow the progress through postings on the project website oconeefocus.com. One of the latest postings tells of the installation of 170 miles of conduit and nearly 160 miles of fiber optic cable as part of a 245-mile network. It’s up to ISPs—Internet Service Providers—to provide that final mile of service. Powell believes negotiations will be successful and what results will be a win-win for the Oconee internet customer who hooks on.
