2014 homicide case resolved by guilty plea

What was been described as an accidental fatal shooting near Clemson has been resolved by two guilty pleas and a sentence today in the Oconee General Sessions Court.  Octavis Jamal Robinson pleaded guilty to attempted armed robbery and involuntary manslaughter.  Judge Letitia Verdin ordered Robinson to prison for 10 years, with a credit of 621 days in jail awaiting trial.  Robinson is 19 years old.  But, at the time of his arrest, Robinson was 17 and lived in Central.  He was arrested by the Oconee Sheriff’s Office in February 2014 after a gun shot took the life of Gastonia, North Carolina resident Rashean Parker II.  Deputy Solicitor David Wagner told Verdin that Robinson had gone to a home with others for the purpose of robbing the occupants of drug or money.  But a scuffle ensued at the front door, and while fleeing and getting into a car, a gun that Robinson fiddled with in the back seat went off and killed Parker, the driver.  Robinson apologized and said that, while sitting in jail, he learned a lesson.  The defendant’s lawyer called Parker’s death an accident and he asked the judge for a five-year sentence instead of 10.  A total of 600 days is to be taken off Robinson’s sentence, as credit for time in jail between arrest and court today.
