40 Suspected Child Abuse Cases in S.C.

Last week’s release of information from the Boy Scouts of America, and reports from the LA times, show 40 cases of suspected child molestation in South Carolina Boy Scout troops between 1947 and January 2005. More than 10 of those are reported in the upstate, and 2 of those are reported in Oconee. The paper has assembled a database documenting what is being called the “perversion files” containing  information on about 5,000 men and a handful of women who were expelled from the Boy Scouts of America between 1947 and January 2005 on suspicion of sexual abuse.  According to the LA Times database, there were 2 suspected cases in Oconee County, 3 in Pickens, 2 in Anderson County and 4 in Greenville. The LA Times created the searchable database of the incidents and the database is available on the internet at http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2012/10/boy-scouts-perversion-files-released-the-secrets-are-out.html
