’63 March on Washington to be remembered in Seneca

The march credited with helping pass the Civil Rights and Voting Rights acts of the 1960s will be commemorated this month by the Oconee Public Library. A program to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington takes place 6:30 p-m Tuesday, August 27 at the Seneca Library. Gail Johnson, a Seneca woman who attended the event, will take part in a moderator’s discussion to be followed by a question-answer session with the audience. The “I Have a Dream” keynote speech during the 1963 march, by Dr. Martin Luther King Junior, was conceived as a way to bring attention to the Civil Rights movement and other issues of the day.
