A “draft” strategy for Oconee Airport

Only a handful of weeks on the job, Oconee’s new airport director has prepared a strategic plan for the facility. Sam Carver handed out copies of his plan, in draft form, last night to the members of the county aeronautics commission. It touches on the strengths and weaknesses of the airport near Clemson and its 5,000-foot runway. Among the strengths: a close proximity to one of the country’s major universities. Among the weaknesses: aging T-hangars and an aging terminal building. The sentiments during the night were of hope for the airport’s future. David Bryant, District Two commissioner, told his colleagues that the county councilman who represents him, Wayne McCall, now the new council chairman, is a strong believer in the airport. Bryant said, “We have him in our corner. He favors growing the airport.”
