A first, partial payment

Those who were left holding the bag when a Seneca-based health insurer became insolvent can expect to receive what’s called an initial, partial payment by the end of February, though it’s liable to amount to no more than pennies on the dollar. The court-appointed deputy receiver for South Carolina Health Cooperative, Michael FitzGibbons of Scottsdale, Arizona, predicts those payments will amount to, perhaps, 20 cents on the dollar. Doctors and hospitals that provided services to those covered by the cooperative are among those in line to receive money. FitzGibbons says some of the money that will help pay claims will be courtesy of a donation from what he called “a corporate citizen.”
