A plea to remember the county’s animals

Among South Carolina’s list of infamous rankings, the state is 45th in the quality and strength of animal protection laws. To a meeting last night with the county’s state lawmakers, Edda Cammick brought material from the Animal Legal Defense Fund. The newest member of the Oconee County Council said she wanted to raise an issue that gets little publicity: the ill treatment of animals in the state. Cammick acknowledged that animal torture in the state is a felony, but she would like to see animal abuse and neglect upgraded from a misdemeanor.
