A rally for Oconee County conservation

Organizers say an annual event that raises awareness for the conservation of Oconee County natural resources is shaping up well. The event takes place Saturday and, once again, will be centered at Calyx Farms on Scenic Highway 11 north of Walhalla. “We’re getting excited,” said Emily Hitchcock, volunteer for Oconee Forever. “We’ve had more pre-event registration than ever….” There will be 30 and 60-mile bicycle rides through the countryside, and families can enjoy slow-cooked barbecue, local craft beer and Americana music. Funds raised are channeled into enhancing protections and awareness for special natural areas, farms and wildlife habitats in Oconee.
