A second year of free credit monitoring

South Carolina is turning to a different company to provide free credit protection for state residents whose personal information was potentially compromised by last year’s computer breech at the State Department of Revenue. According to an announcement by Marcia Adams, Budget and Control Board Director, Texas-based CS Identity Corporation has been awarded a contract to provide an additional year of free credit protection for eligible South Carolinians. The free service for the past year has been provided by Experian, but that credit protection service chose not to bid on continuing the service. State Representative Phyllis Henderson of Greer recently said you may choose to stay with Experian for a charge, “but if you want to take advantage of the free service provided by the State, please know that we will have a new vendor selected in the very near future and you will be contacted about signing up for the new service.” That new vendor, CS Identity, will open enrollment on credit protection and identity monitoring October 24 and, according to the Department of Revenue, will provide more details on the enrollment process in the upcoming weeks.
