At Walhalla, the official 24-hour period measurement for rainfall totaled more than one and a half inches—-1.68” to be exact, according to Weather Observer Barbara Wilson. This is good for the lake basin. Billy Birdwell of the Army Corps of Engineers reports that not only have the Savannah River Basin reservoirs refilled, but so have other reservoirs in the Southeast. According to Birdwell, good spring rains, strong runoff, and hydropower needs met elsewhere in the region all contribute to higher levels at lakes Hartwell, Thurmond, and Russell. “Enjoy, and please be safe on the water,” he says.
