A three-member countywide chamber board

After survey results were factored, the board of the Oconee Chamber of Commerce in Seneca voted to dissolve in favor of a three-member board representing the chambers in Seneca, Walhalla, and Westminster.  The effective date is August 31.  Ed Halbig chaired a committee that considered the venture and said today there were no dissenters among the directors who voted.  Questions remain, such as the name for the new chamber organization and who serves as executive director.  Walhalla’s Vanessa Penton has told us she would apply.  “What we’re doing is we’re reducing competition among ourselves,” said Halbig.  “Look at it like a tug of war.  Now we have three chambers pulling in the same direction….”
