Absentee voting announcement

The office of the state Election Commission made this announcement today regarding those voting absentee in the Republicans’ Presidential primary:  “An online media report in the Columbia market this morning incorrectly stated that voters could return their absentee ballots to their polling places.  This is not true.  Voters must return absentee ballots to the county elections office by 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.  Voter may NOT return their absentee ballot to their polling place.  The story has since been corrected, but the SEC wanted to make sure this was not repeated in other media outlets. To recap: Voters can vote absentee in person at their county elections office until 5:00 p.m. today. If a voter was mailed an absentee ballot, the voter must return that ballot to the county elections office by 7:00 p.m. on Saturday for it to count.”
