The SC Department of Transportation has approved contracts to resurface more than 270 roads in 33 counties. Oconee will see three road projects as part of the first group of projects approved under Act 98 using revenue collected from the state vehicle sales tax. The Oconee re-surfacing will take place at Whitfield Road in Fair Play, Broadway Street in Newry, and Keowee Trail-Carson Road near Seneca. Act 98 provides additional revenue for the DOT to replace bridges and resurface roads not eligible for federal funding and fund a series of interstate projects through the South Carolina Transportation Infrastructure Bank. Contracts for an additional 77 South Carolina roads are expected to be approved as early as next month.
