Adams: Call SC lawmakers about Local Government Fund

Seneca chef Britt Adams is a fierce critic of Oconee County government spending, but there’s one thing he’s in total agreement with the county policymakers. Adams thinks there are some members of the state legislature who are giving Oconee and other counties a raw deal. In an interview this week, Adams took up the call for Oconee County residents to ask state lawmakers to resist any effort to further cut or eliminate the Local Government Fund. Adams says Reg Dexter, chairman of the Oconee County Council budget committee, is correct to sound alarm that failure to fully fund or eliminate the LGF will place Oconee County’s budget in a hole. Dexter’s colleague Wayne McCall warned this week that without state assistance, Oconee might have to lay off employees. According to Council Chairman Joel Thrift, State Representative Bill Whitmire of District One committed to him that he will support the Local Government Fund.
