Admimnistrator urges county leaders to think years ahead

Scott Moulder, Oconee County administrator, urged council members last night to adopt a capital improvement project plan that stretches seven to ten years in the future.  Members of the council’s budget committee were of a mind last night to consider a few projects for which it would be worthwhile to pursue.  They included a countywide mandated re-cycling program, sewer for I-85, and a replacement Seneca library.  But their enthusiasm for the projects may have been dampened somewhat by words of caution from Reg Dexter, the District Five lameduck councilman.  Dexter predicted if future councils hold their budgets to $42 million dollars there won’t be enough revenue to meet the debt payments.  Moulder last night also recommended the budget committee switch to three-year budgets instead of one-year budgets.
