Aero commissioner urges deal between county and university

To allow larger aircraft to land and take off, Oconee County is pursuing a runway extension that would require re-locating part of the Shiloh Road.  But one aeronautics commissioner thinks the time is also right to try something new on another side of the airport.  Eddie Perry said last night he believes Clemson University is interested in expanding its presence at its hanger to the east of the terminal.  Therein lies the possibility, Perry believes, for a deal.  “I would like to see us pursue some kind of swap or deal with Clemson University because they own the land on the far side, to the north of the airport,” Perry said at last night’s commission meeting.  Perry envisions the county building the university a “first class” facility in exchange for wooded university property that parallels the north side of the airport runway.
