After referendum failure, where Salem turns next

At this week’s meeting of the Salem Town Council, there was discussion of the failure of last week’s countywide referendum which, if passed, would have benefited the Salem area in a couple of projects. Clerk-Treasurer Kim Alexander says her town will now consider other options, including grant applications, to help attract growth in the northern end of the county. Among the projects that an extra penny on the sales tax would have paid for were a Salem recreation and senior center and a waterline extension referred to as northern economic development.
