Airplane memorial marker now in place off 107

March 21, 2014

In upper Oconee, a roadside marker is now in place as a memorial to the Second World War era airplane that ¬†crashed and the five servicemen who were killed. Oconeeans Jimmy Rankin and Jack Lombard took the honors this afternoon of unveiling the roadside marker on South Carolina 107—about a mile south of the entrance to the Fish Hatchery. About 75 people attended the ceremony, for which there was an appearance by the Oconee Honor Guar. The PalmettoPatriots Guard motorcycle club displayed flags.
