Airport land deals in front of County Council
For two and a half years, Oconee County has been under a directive from the FAA to eliminate all height obstructions and other non-compatible land use within the area of Runway 7 at its airport near Clemson. A consultant on behalf of the airport has worked out deals with the owners of two parcels of land at a cost not to exceed $178 thousand. The costs to protect the runway qualify for FAA grants. The property purchase goes before County Council during its meeting at 6 Tuesday night in Walhalla. Buying the parcels will make way for the re-routing of nearby Nebo Church Road, moving it out of the path of approaching aircraft.
