Alexander ascends to committee chair

In a re-organization of the State Senate, Oconee’s Thomas Alexander rose yesterday to the chair of the Labor, Commerce, and Industry Committee. Such appointments in the Senate are based on seniority, and Alexander says he could never have achieved the position without the support of the voters of District One, who have elected him every time since 1994. Not lost on the Republican senator is that, now, both he and District Two House member Bill Sandifer of Seneca chair the Labor, Commerce, and Industry committees in the two legislative chambers. And that, Alexander says, presents a unique opportunity for the two to help bring jobs to a county in need of them.
