All-time record for winter energy use

For winter power use, Duke Energy companies report all-time records. And Duke is thanking customers who have conserved during the extreme weather event. Those cutbacks have helped ease the burden on the utility system. For Duke Energy Carolinas, a new winter usage peak of 5,105 megawatt-hours was set yesterday in the hour ending at 8 in the morning. That exceeded the previous winter record set in January 2009. System operators today are monitoring and say there is adequate electricity supply to meet demand.
