Anderson attorney pleads guilt to obstruction

An attorney in Anderson pleaded guilty to obstruction. Anne Tompkins, U-S Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina, announced the plea of guilt from Charles Anderson, an Anderson, South Carolina attorney, came in front of U-S District Judge Michelle Childs in Greenville. The government announcement quotes government documents as saying the 44-year old Anderson pleaded guilty to making materially false statements to a department agency. Court records show Anderson represented Lonnie Maddox, currently facing drug charges in South Carolina, arising from a large-scale cocaine conspiracy. According to the government, court records indicate that Anderson lied to federal agents concerning his knowledge of the whereabouts of two vehicles Maddox bought with illegal proceeds of drug dealings. Anderson has been released on bond. At sentencing, he faces a maximum prison term of five years or a $250 thousand fine, or both. Sentencing has not yet been set.
