Angels Trout, Nationals’ Harper win baseball’s Rookie of the Year

Outfielders Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels and Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals won baseball’s Rookie of the Year awards on Monday. The 21-year-old Trout was a unanimous pick in voting by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America and the youngest-ever American League Rookie of the Year winner, while the 20-year-old Harper became the second-youngest winner in the National League.  Trout hit .326 this past season, second-best in the league behind Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera, with 30 home runs and 83 RBIs, and led the majors with 129 runs and 49 steals. Trout is also one of the five finalists for the AL MVP award.  Harper got 16 of 32 first-place votes, just edging out Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Wade Miley, 112 points to 105. He hit .270 with 22 home runs and 50 RBIs.
