Anglers take on Lake Keowee

Anglers from four states competed this weekend at South Cove Park on Lake Keowee, in the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League, part of the Forrest L. Wood Circuit. Boaters Darren Ashley of Calhoun Falls and Adam Rice of Anderson both hauled in a five-fish total of 15 pounds and 12 ounces, earning 250 points and splitting more than $10 thousand in winnings. Dustin Shirley of Royston, Georgia captured 250 points winning the co-angler division with a total of 12 pounds, 11 ounces. Big Fish trophies went to Furman Thompson of Clayton, Georgia with a five-pound, 11-ounce bass and co-angler Tyler O’Kelley of Seneca with a bass of 3 pounds, 11 ounces. Phil Shirley of Oconee PRT says the $1 thousand investment through the Mountain Lakes CVB was well worth it, considering the spin-off benefits to the local economy. Another crowd of anglers are due at South Cove on Keowee this Saturday for a S.C. division tourney with BAIT.
