Arrest in major act of vandalism

A new arrest has been in what was a major act of vandalism last summer at the Oconee Country Club in the Richland Community. According to law enforcement records, a 17-year old neighbor of the golf course, Jessie Dewayne Shook, has been arrested and charged with burglary third degree and malicious damage to property. Golf course workers discovered that on the night of July 11 someone inflicted $15 thousand damage by driving 22 golf carts over every hole, spinning tires, slinging turf, and leaving doughnut tracks. Flag pins were toppled and there was damage left to the golf cart building.  A spokeswoman for the Oconee Sheriff’s Department says Shook is the third person implicated in the vandalism.  Two youngsters of juvenile age, 14 and 16, were referred December 11 to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
