Arrests last night and today

Arrests were made last night and as late as today in a case in which a youngster is described as the victim of sex offenses in Oconee County. Sheriff Mike Crenshaw confirmed the development early this afternoon, but added that the case is ongoing—with the chance for at least one more arrest. “Sheriff’s Office had a report of a sexual assault reported by a juvenile that occurred within the county,” Crenshaw said. Partly out of deference to the victim, Crenshaw declined to identify the location of the home where the crimes are alleged, but he confirmed that those arrested are Oconee County students. Dr. Michael Thorsland, acting superintendent for the public schools, said, “We are appalled that this would happen in our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim of this crime, and we are very thankful and supportive of the Sheriff’s Office as they seek to solve this crime.”
