Arts scholarship to Walhalla senior

art scholarshipA student at Walhalla High School, Jesus Miranda, was named recipient today of this year’s James M. Brown Scholarship for the Arts. Six other Oconee students auditioned. For Jesus, the scholarship is worth $4 thousand. He plans to attend Furman University this fall. The award is given annually to Oconee seniors who plan to enter a college or university to major in dance, drama, music or the visual arts. And Jesus becomes the 19th student awarded since the scholarship was begun in 1995. James Brown was an Oconee superintendent of education who took a special interest in the arts.
