As part of a drill, student identifies “intruder”

As part of a drill, a student at West-Oak Middle School identified a make-believe intruder and assisted his teacher.  And, for that, Miguel Estrada was recognized during this week’s meeting of the Oconee School Board of Trustees.  A deputy sheriff, Ryan Overton, entered the school in plain clothes and mingled with students eating lunch.  Miguel noticed the “intruder” immediately and asked why he did not have a visitor’s pass.  It was part of a Code Red drill.  The school district expresses appreciation to West-Oak Middle student Miguel Estrada for courage in what can be an unusual situation.
