At the new Walhalla High, space won’t be an issue

At this point Oconee School District has no specific expectations for additional student enrollment at the new Walhalla High School from outside the Walhalla attendance area. But, if some of those out of attendance area students want to enroll in a new high school, they and their families are free to make that decision under the district’s school choice policy, according to Dr. Michael Thorsland, county superintendent. Thorsland told 96.3/WGOG NEWS, “The new school, like SHS and WOHS, is being built for 1300 students, so space will not be an issue.” The new Walhalla High on north highway 11 is on schedule to open in August next year, and we asked Thorsland if the district had received indications there may be enrollment requests from high school age students in the nearby Tamassee-Salem attendance area.
