Athlete with local ties commits to LSU

Jonathan Gettys, a junior left-hander with the Gainesville, GA Red Elephants baseball team and most valuable pitcher in the Pan American Games last summer, committed to collegiate baseball powerhouse Louisiana State University (LSU)  March 28.

The 6’4″ 230 lb. athlete has attracted the attention of MLB scouts with his 95 mph fastball and batting performance of over .400.

His older brother Michael was drafted last year by the San Diego Padres following his All-American performance at Gainesville High.

The Gettys brothers’ parents are Mark and Stacy Gettys, formerly of Seneca. Grandparents are Dr. and Mrs. Ed Gettys of Franklin, NC (formerly of Clemson)  and Wayne and Donna Morton of Westminster. Maternal grandparents are William C. and Kathleen Patterson of Seneca.
