Attorney explains how private meetings pay off

Executive sessions by government create distrust on the part of some members of the citizenry who decry taking the public’s business behind closed doors. But the Oconee County Attorney last night suggested that patience can be a virtue. For a rare time, there was no need for a private meeting following last night’s county council open session. Perhaps, the reason is that the county appears to have its ducks in a row to help bring in economic development to two separate tracts of property—in the eastern end of the county and the other in the southern end. And Tom Martin, the county attorney, suggested that several, lengthy executive sessions in recent weeks can be credited for helping secure the projects.
