August opening for charter school

The effort to open a charter school in Salem now has an opening date—August 15.  And, according to the NEXT School Eagle Ridge, August will be a definite date to open the charter school in the former Tamassee-Salem Middle and High School buildings.  Those buildings and property are to transfer this Friday to the Town of Salem and a memorandum of understanding articulating NEXT’s use of building and grounds is being finalized.  Conditions for the charter school to open include a viable student enrollment in grades 6-12.  “The response from families in Oconee County, and surrounding counties, has been impressive and it is believed to only increase now that we know the school is definitely going to open in August,” said Joe Greenberg, project facilitator.  Beginning Friday, Greenberg assumes the role of site principal.  He says contract offers have been extended to qualified teachers, as well as to administrative and support positions.
