The difficulty in hiring lifeguards

The Clemson Central Recreation Center is having a hard time hiring reliable lifeguards to watch over the indoor swimming pool.  Clemson City Council next week considers a change to allow the pool under certain conditions to remain open when a lifeguard is unavailable.  The current requirement to occasionally close the pool disappoints its paying members.

Making room for new town homes

The approval of a zoning variance this week is a green light for a new project of townhouses near Seneca.  The variance was a unanimous decision of the county board of appeals.  James Coley, county planning director, says the developers envision 68 townhomes on the Wells Highway — an area between Singing Pines Road and the Utica Baptist Church.
