Accident on SC 11 north of West Union

A caller to 96.3/WGOG has described what appears to have been a serious accident this morning on the highway in front of where the new Walhalla High is to be built. State troopers report the roadway is blocked at highway 11 and the Austin Edwards Road. No other details immediately available.

Bear cubs left in box

Three bear cubs found abandoned in Oconee County shortly after birth are receiving medical help elsewhere. The cubs, found inside a box left last week at the Long Creek Volunteer Fire Station, appear to be no more than four weeks old, according to a South Carolina wildlife biologist. Prescribed burn this afternoon

You can expect a smoke in the sky above Long Creek. At 2:30 this afternoon, the U-S Forest Service plans a 15-acre prescribed burn. Though it’s a small burn, it likely will be enough to cause a smoky sky, according to a spokesman for the prescribed burn.

Oconee Sheriff’s Department is keeping open its investigation of sex allegations made against a 20-year old man and, according to its spokesman, wants to talk to anyone who is aware of any other inappropriate conduct. Jail meeting time change

If you plan to go to next week’s meeting about the latest plans for a new Oconee jail, there’s a time change. Jimmy Watt, spokesman for the Oconee Sheriff’s Department, says Tuesday night’s meeting at the Walhalla Depot will begin one hour earlier than first announced. The new start time is 6:30 p-m.
