Budget spat — mayor and councilman

Hiker rescued north of Walhalla

Chief Bates of Walhalla Fire Department reports personnel during the noon hour today rescued a female hiker from the trail at Stumphouse Tunnel Park Issaqueena Falls. He said her family, who accompanied her, reported the hiker had a medical condition.  To effect the rescue/extrication, crews used ropes and a Stokes basket.

The Oconee coroner, Karl Addis, has made the following identifications: The Greenwood man whose body was pulled early today from Lake Hartwell near Georgia–Akeem O. Lukie. (identified by prominent tattoos & SC I-D card) The owner of the Dodge Charger that wrecked at the state line–Mr. Lukie’s widow.

Record walleye caught in Lake Tugaloo

South Carolina Department of Natural Resources recently certified a state-record walleye caught in the Upstate over Memorial Day weekend. Chris Edlund, of Spartanburg, and Dave Starzek, of Greer, caught a 10-pound, 1.44-ounce walleye from Lake Tugalo in Oconee County on May 29.
