Greer solider killed

A soldier from Greer was one of two U-S Army casualties November 16 in the Afghanistan province of Paktika. Oconee County is targeting a date to “light up” FOCUS–the project to bring high-speed broadband service countywide. Paul Corbeil, District One county councilman, says the projected date is four months away–Friday, March 15, 2013. The county’s public schools are already beginning to switch to the service, according to Dr. Mike Lucas, county superintendent.

60-year old was traffic fatality

This just in….A 60-year old resident of Fowood Hills near Westminster was this morning’s traffic fatality on S.C. 11. Coroner Karl Addis said Guy Arvid Nelson died in the accident involving his pickup truck and other vehicles shortly after 6:30 a-m at S.C. 11 and Bruce Road.
