To accommodate Presidents Day on Monday, Walhalla is adjusting its trash pickup schedule.  Monday’s routes will instead be run on both Tuesday and Wednesday next week.  All other routes should remain on schedule, according to Russ Price, public works director.

Skies could darken today from a planned prescribed burn inside the Andrew Pickens District of the Sumter National Forest.  A U-S Forest Service spokesman says the burn will cover 90 acres in the southern part of the ranger district, west of the Black Mountain Road.  It’s to be an approximate five-hour burn, to start around 11 o’clock. this morning.

The Blue Ridge Orchid Society promises beautiful and unusual tropical orchids of all shapes and sizes at its free, annual show opening today at the Duke World of Energy.  The display of orchids will run daily through Saturday. Among the featured displays will be that of Mark Reinke of Marble Branch Farms in Walhalla.
