Clemson University claims an academic first.  Five of its students are chosen for this year’s Barry Goldwater Scholarship.  The scholarship recognizes students of exceptional promise in advancing research in mathematics, natural sciences and engineering.  The five are Caroline Argenti, Adam Gatch, Maggie Marte, Cody Waters, and Audrey Wessinger.

A storage unit caught fire at Fair Play, on the Feltman Road.  Oconee Rural Fire sounded the alarm just after 9:30 last night.

Under old business, Westminster City Council will consider a final reading tomorrow of an inducement agreement for the Spinx convenience store chain to locate a new store in the city at E. Main Street and SC 24/the West-Oak Highway.  It’s an agenda item for the 6 pm regular April council meeting at the Fire Department.

Smoke disbursed Friday from a Georgia prescribed burn all the way into Walhalla and as far south as the Bountyland Community near Seneca.  Sky 96.3 Clayton Radio reported a 1,261 acre burn inside the Chattooga Ranger District, five miles northeast of Clayton.  It prompted Mountain Rest Fire Department to post:  “The wind is blowing our direction.”
