All Oconee County recycling centers are open today, but they’ll close both tomorrow and Friday for the Thanksgiving holidays.  The recycling centers, formerly called manned convenience centers, will reopen on Saturday to deposit post-Thanksgiving Day waste.

Fire fighters around 6 this morning determined no fire in the McDonald’s restaurant at West Union.  But they discovered the belts running the air handler overheated and spread smoke to the building, isolated to the playground area.

The results of an autopsy are inconclusive, and Coroner Addis says more forensic testing is needed before a cause can be determined in the death of Tamassee resident Austin Wade Campbell.  The body of 24-year old Campbell was found Sunday afternoon in the Upper Whitewater Lake near his home.  A missing person alert was issued for Campbell two weeks ago.

State troopers are trying to track down the driver and vehicle that struck and killed a moped operator early today near the Pickens County city of Liberty.  Trooper Gary Miller said it was a highway 178 accident near Knoll Street, about one-half mile south of Liberty.  The accident took life of a moped operator, who was not wearing a helmet.
