Train cars derailed in Pickens County

Crews have been working to clear 13 train cars that derailed yesterday afternoon in Pickens County.  No injuries were reported.  Norfolk Southern said the derailment requires a detour for SC 93 traffic between Norris and Liberty.  The 13 cars were part of an inter-modal train on the way from Charlotte, North Carolina to Memphis, Tennessee.  An official of Pickens County […]

Body found last night near Westminster

The Oconee County coroner has scheduled an autopsy in the death of a man found last night near Westminster.  Coroner Karl Addis says Danny Andrew Smith had been on a tractor bush hogging on family property at 1490 Coffee Road.  According to Addis, a medical event may have caused the death of Smith, 62 years old.

Unwanted pets begging to be adopted

Drought-free South Carolina

The South Carolina Drought Response Committee, in a meeting yesterday, declared the entire state drought-free, thanks to a recent active weather pattern, including the rain from Tropical System Claudette.  After reviewing conditions, the committee removed a drought declaration for six downstate counties:  Clarendon, Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Marion and Williamsburg.  Most agriculture producers are said to be happy with field conditions, […]

Law enforcement chase leads to Oconee

A chase by law enforcement that started this morning in Franklin County, Georgia eventually crossed into Oconee County, South Carolina, but the driver apparently got away.  Word from Georgia is that the chase started on 85 southbound.  At exit 164 Carnesville, the driver crossed back over and headed northbound, eventually across the bridge into South Carolina.
