Fire reported this morning at a home on 11 Oaks Drive, s. highway 11–some ten miles south of Walhalla in the vicinity of Oakway’s Bruce Road.  The alarm was sounded shortly after the 5 o’clock hour this morning.  An hour later, fire fighters remained at the scene.

Deputy and suspect trade gunfire

The driver of a Chevy Avalanche opened fire yesterday afternoon at an Oconee sheriff’s deputy near Keowee Key.  The deputy returned gunfire.  The deputy was unharmed.  A chase stretched into Pickens County, where members of that sheriff’s office found the Chevy Avalanche on Jamison Road near Freedom Forest Drive.  The suspect driver fled on foot.  The incident started when the […]

The man who drowned last evening on the Georgia side of Lake Hartwell was a 22-year old Greer, South Carolina resident.  The Hart County coroner, Mike Adams, said the fatality was Armando Esteban Sanchez Martinez.  He drowned around 6 o’clock while swimming with friends at the Big Oaks Recreation area.  The coroner said Martinez could not swim, and was not […]
