NEA grant for Pickens

National Endowment funds in the amount of $25 thousand are coming to the city of Pickens. The announcement was made Jane Chu, chairman of the NEA. Stolen car destroyed in fiery accident

A car stolen on Friday near Walhalla turned up in a fiery accident near West Union. And Oconee Sheriff’s Office reports one person has been arrested. Law enforcement records show Nathan Dwight Heaton, 34, of Mountain Rest charged with grand larceny after a 2000 Dodge Stratus was stolen from an address on the Westminmster Highway.…

Road repairs underway!

Repair work started this morning on a county road in the Tamassee Community.  According to Scott Krein, director of Oconee Emergency Services, Saturday night’s torrential downpours washed out Lester Lane.  Earlier Krein mis-identified the damaged road as Bumgardner Drive.

Heavy rains damage Greenville County and I-85

Flash flooding Saturday night damaged parts of eastern Greenville County, including I-85. Some of the more significant damage was left on I-85 southbound at mile marker 54. Fire has been extinguished!

An apparent small fire has been extinguished this morning at Walhalla’s Kountry Kupboard restaurant. Chief Doug Kelley of the Walhalla Fire Department calls it a grease fire, but other details were not immediately known. Kelley believes the restaurant will be able to serve its customers this morning, although an assessment will be required.
