Searing weekend temps

Low 90s are the forecast high temperatures this weekend, and the heat has prompted Mark Malsick of the State Climate Office to declare we are under a broiler.  This ridge unfortunately keeps the lid on any widespread rain at least until early next week.  Malsick has this advice for gardeners:  “Man your weekend watering cans.”

The Lakeview Assisted Living facility in Oconee County, operated by Senior Solutions, is getting a boost from local Boy Scouts.  Walhalla Troop 45 is collecting toilet paper, Clorox wipes, non-perishable food and snacks.  If you’d like to help, drop off one or more of those items 9 to 5 Monday through Friday at the Nix insurance agency in Walhalla.

Stash of heroin found in Newry, arrest made

A 34-year old Newry woman remained behind bars yesterday, following her arrest this week on drug trafficking charges.  A multi-law enforcement agency investigation led to the arrest Tuesday of Sarah Frances Deill.  According to the Oconee Sheriff’s Office, agents used search warrants and seized about 280 grams of heroin from a South Avenue home.  They calculate that the heroin carried […]
