Clemson street work next week

A five-week street work project will start next week in Clemson.  On Monday, the contractor Martin and Sons will start to replace the 60′ culvert on Clarendon Drive near Shady Lane.  The contractor must clear the right-of-way by removing parts of fallen trees and shrubs and finish minor grading and slope stabilization.  The five-week estimate is dependent on good weather.

Lone hiker missing

A 27-year old hiker from Texas was last seen Monday.  Oconee Emergency Services has put out an alert to locate Richard Gonzalez—6’, a thin 175 pounds.  He was last seen on the Foothills Trail on the river between Nicholson and Burrell’s Ford.  Gonzalez wore a black T-shirt and carried a green backpack.  He has no known medical problems.  It was […]

Outdoor fun in Salem

The town of Salem has reserved Saturday evening for fun in the outdoors.  Another cruise-in will take place at 5 o’clock Saturday evening.  There will be fun activities designed for kids, also.  The Eagle Ridge Charter School will sell plates featuring fresh-off-the-grill hot dogs.  Further details about Salem’s cruise-in on Saturday can be heard on 101.7/WGOG NEWS.

Hart has a diploma in hand

An Oconee County councilman has earned a diploma from a statewide organization that shows he has satisfactorily completed a course that focused on the mechanisms of state government.  Glenn Hart, who was re-nominated this year for a second council term, says the diploma reflects completion of a 45-hour course, part of which focused on ethics, finances, and tax revenues.

Barn fire near Salem

Fire consumed a barn in the backyard of a home last night near Salem.  No one was hurt off the Burnt Tanyard Road, but it’s believed there were possessions inside the barn including a motorcycle and furniture.  The first fire unit dispatched, the Salem Fire Department, received the call shortly before 11 o’clock.

Entry to Yellow Branch can be deceiving
