Fire Damages Home Near Salem

Fire damaged two rooms Saturday in a three-story home near Salem in the Cliffs Keowee South development. Firefighters from Salem and the northern part of Oconee County, as well as Pickens County, spent three hours at 405 Evergreen Trail. Fire Chief Charlie King says the fire started from a lighting hit during an afternoon storm.

Diving Mishap on Jocassee

A man is recovering following a diving mishap Saturday on Lake Jocassee. The man felt ill during a 300-foot dive accompanied by commercial divers. The unidentified diver got out of the water on his own. He was then sent, by helicopter, to get breathing help at a Greenville hospital.

Children Injured In Thursday Wreck

Two children on Thursday were ejected from a Ford Expedition that went off Seneca’s Perkins Creek Road and down an embankment. The police believe the injuries are not life threatening. The crash took down a telephone pole and forced the temporary closing of the road near Madison Point home development.
