Back-to-school bash Tuesday

A back to school bash for students and their families in the Walhalla attendance area takes place next week on Main Street near the green space.  Organized by the chamber of commerce in partnership with the Oconee School District, the event will run 6 to 8 o’clock Tuesday evening under the theme of the spirit of unity.  The 2016-17 year is the first for Tamassee-Salem students who’ve been transferred to the Walhalla attendance zone after the closing of their middle and high school in Salem.  The event is open to students and families in the following schools:  James Brown, Keowee, Tamassee-Salem Elementary, and Faith Christian School.  Free bouncy games.  There will be music, facepainting and other fundraising opportunities. The chamber is hopeful that businesses and churches will donate school items that will be distributed. Items collected at the District office include pencils, pens, notebook paper, composition notebooks, crayons, colored pencils, glue, glue sticks and back packs.
