A one thousand dollar grant to the Education Foundation of Oconee County is being earmarked to support the Backpack Program. The money was granted by the Sodexo Foundation. Sodexo is the company that supplies the Oconee School District’s food program. The Education Foundation is earmarking the $1 thousand grant for Backpack—a program started three years ago to provide backpacks of food for students to take home over the weekends. Students eligible are those who don’t have access to evening meals or free and reduced breakfast and lunch at school. According to the Oconee School District, more than 400 students are being served this year. The cost to feed one child is $160 dollars.
