BASF granted special exception

Oconee County will make an exception to allow a manufacturer to put up a building—30 feet higher than the county’s limit. The Board of Zoning Appeals last night approved a variance to permit BASF to go forward with a 95-foot high building. The BASF plant manager, Frank Lansom-Scribner, told the board the building will house machinery and new employees that make for the addition of a new process for the recycler of precious metals. No comments were received from the public, and the board approved the variance. One member, Berry Nichols, disqualified himself from voting.
